In my January 7 post (Green Infrastructure Challenges and Solutions) I mentioned we were getting ready to announce the winners of our Green Infrastructure Challenge. I want to share the results with you here – a little belatedly, but still exciting to all of us at DC Water involved in this effort, and of course for the winners!
Seven winning designs were selected and District Mayor Vincent Gray helped present the awards at a wonderful ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
The winning teams put forth some very innovative ideas for greening public and private space – everything from “blue roofs” to inverted canopies to collect rain water and keep it out of the sewer system. You can see all the winners on our website at dcwater.com/greenchallenge and watch the awards ceremony below. The next phase is to invite the teams to develop more complete designs and some projects will be selected for construction.
Congratulations to the winners! And see Mayor Gray’s remarks beginning at minute 27:20.
