We are very excited about our Clean Rivers Project and the impact it will have on the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers and Rock Creek. The scale of the effort is enormous, which is especially evident when you’re standing inside the Blue Plains Tunnel – 23 feet in diameter – being constructed by the equally impressive “Lady Bird” tunnel boring machine.
It’s also great to see people outside DC Water share our enthusiasm for this project and can help educate others about the benefits. For instance, in September we hosted Philippe Cousteau, Jr. and his team on their first Earth Echo Expedition, an exploration of aquatic dead zones. They were traveling from one end of the Chesapeake Bay watershed to the other filming an educational documentary and stopped at Blue Plains to see Lady Bird in action.
The result is an excellent video that really puts the Clean Rivers Project in perspective and explains how it will help solve a man-made environmental issue. The video below is about 10 minutes long and it is well worth your time.
